Carlow Manager Turlough O’Brien says it’s an injustice that Sean Murphy & Paul Borderick weren’t nominated for All Stars

Carlow Senior Football manager Turlough O’Brien says it’s an injustice that both Sean Murphy and Paul Broderick weren’t nominated for their performances in the Championship in the All-Stars nomination.

Speaking to KCLR, Turlough says that there were players nominated that weren’t worthy of recognition.

“Sean Murphy gave an outstanding display against Dublin in the Championship and he won man of the match and he outplayed the Dublin midfield, and he certainly I thought would have been one that would have been thrown in the mix, but then midfield is a very difficult place to get a nomination.

“Paul Broderick too would have been very very unlucky not to get a nomination. He had a phenomenal year on the scoring charts and when you see Paddy McBrearty(Donegal) getting nominated ahead of him, an all-star nomination for a County like Carlow would be a massive boost to local GAA people and to promote the game locally so we would be disappointed,” he said.

O’Brien added that a Palatine and Rathvilly County Final looks most likely this weekend.

“Palatine have a lot of pace in their team and obviously going for three-in-a-row, while Eire Og are coming in, I thought they were very cautious against Tinryland in the Quarter-Final. Palatine will attack them from their half-back line and that should actually be a very good game of football I imagine, I am really looking forward to seeing that one.

“Rathvilly should be favorites against Old Leighlin I imagine. It might be a last hurrah for a few of the Old Leighlin stalwarts really. Get an hour out of Mark Brennan and I would give them a chance of possibly causing an upset but strength in depth is an issue for them, they don’t seem to have the back-up that they need whereas Rathvilly would have a lot of young players to come in and are going quite well,” he said.
