Carlow’s senior footballers got their O’Byrne Cup campaign started at Netwatch Cullen Park last night.
Trailing 1-12 to 1-3 at half time the hosts endured more of the same in the second half as Kildare dominated proceedings to run out 4-19 to 1-10 winners and seal their spot in next Wednesday’s semi-final.
The competition is a precursor of sorts to the league campaign so the lineup was much changed to the starting lineup in the Barrowsider’s last competitive game. There was a total of nine changes from the first-round defeat to Longford last June, with retirements and Sigurson Cup coming into play.
Conor Crowley grabbed the goal with a further two points, while Colum Hulton grabbed three points, Darragh Foley put over two frees; Murtough Ware got two from play while Shane Buggy 0-1,
Carlow faces a quick turnaround with Niall Carew’s charges heading to Lakepoint Park in Mullingar to take on hosts Westmeath tomorrow.
