Longford 0-15
Carlow 0-04
Carlow suffered a second consecutive defeat in the O’Byrne Cup on Saturday afternoon as Longford proved too strong for the Barrowsiders in Pearse Park.
Having lost to Meath during the week in their opening encounter, Niall Carew’s side were hoping to bounce back with their first victory of 2023.
They never got to grips with their opponents, however, as a strong Longford side dominated from the offset.
Keelan McGann put the hosts into an early lead after five minutes and despite two frees from Daragh Foley, the visitors trailed by 0-06 to 0-02 at the interval.
Longford started the second half strongly with two points from David McGivney along with scores from Keelan McGann and Dessie Reynolds helping them move into an eight-point lead.
The damage had been done in the first half for last year’s 2022 Tailteann Cup quarter-finalists as they failed to take advantage of having a significant wind in the first half.
Longford continued to pick off Carlow towards the end of a one-sided encounter as they deservedly ran out 11-point winners.
Next up for Carlow is a trip to Stradbally on Wednesday night for their final pre-season game against Laois with throw-in there at 8pm.
