Carlow’s Aoife Kelly in Ireland U16 squad bound for Portugal next week

St. Pat's Aoife Kelly will travel to Portugal for two friendles with the Republic of Ireland Women's Under 16s this month.

St. Patrick’s Aoife Kelly continues her journey with the Republic of Ireland Women’s Under 16s this month.

The Carlow youngster will join Tom Elmes’ squad in Beja this coming Monday and Wednesday with Ireland set to take on a talented Portugal team.

The friendlies provide a great test for an Irish squad seeking out elite opposition in the underage ranks.

Several players who have already featured at Under-17 level, including Grace Flanagan (Cork City), also make the squad.

Republic of Ireland WU16 Squad

Defenders: Niamh Tyrell (Shamrock Rovers), Alice Lillie (Sligo Rovers), Skye Corcoran (Galway WFC), Anna Cantwell (DLR Waves), Heidi Macken (Cork City), Aoife Turner (Mountain View Los Altos), Jill Giles (Peamount United), Amy Madden (Treaty United)

Midfielders: Jess Fitzgerald (Peamount United), Aoife Kelly (St Patrick’s, Carlow), Jodie Loughrey (Donegal Women’s League), Ellen Dolan (Peamount United), Jodie Griffin (Treaty United)
