Former Carlow Senior Football goalkeeper John Kearns says that Carlow’s defensive style of football has worked well despite having their critics.
Speaking to KCLR ahead of Carlow’s clash away to Westmeath on Saturday, John says that the majority of counties across the Country are applying a similar template.
He told KCLR Sport “Football overall is very hard to watch, but again there is not only Carlow. Sligo play very similar as well”.
“I thought that last Sunday with Sligo (defensive) as they were chasing the game especially in the 2nd half and they played very very defensive”.
“It is hard to watch and it is dour at times, but at the end of the day Carlow got out of Division 4 for the first time in over twenty years with the football that they played so I mean you can argue that they are playing to their strengths, but at the moment most of the counties in the country are playing this defensive style and why it is hard to look at” said John.
He added It’s working for most of them as regards they are winning games and it’s getting promotion”.
