Kilkenny sealed their place in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final for 2016 in a thrilling encounter at Semple Stadium on August 13 against a determined Waterford side.
The first encounter between Brian Cody and Derek McGrath’s sides was hailed across the board as one of if not the game of the championship, and indeed the entire hurling calendar for the year to date. The replay raised that bar again, both sides chasing goals and keeping the hardcore supporters and neutral fans alike on the edge of their seats.
The two point win for Kilkenny came at a price, however, with Ballyhale Shamrocks man Michael Fennelly rupturing his Achilles tendon, ruling him not only out of an All-Ireland Final he had helped secure but keeping him sidelined until spring 2017.
Injuries aside, the game was a sure fire bet for match of the season and is available to listen back to in full below.
