Kilkenny GAA has announced today (Wednesday) that Clara man Conor Phelan will be joining the Kilkenny senior hurling management team for the 2021 season.
The announcement comes in the wake of the news of DJ Careys departure from the inter-county setup.
He joins James McGarry and Martin Comerford as selectors for the 2021 season, while Michael Comerford continues as the senior hurlers’ S&C coach.
Brian Cody was recently ratified for a record 23rd season in charge of the senior hurlers.
Management credentials
Conor himself hurled for Kilkenny and has an all Ireland U21 medal as well as a senior medal with Kilkenny that he picked up in 2003, he then had to leave the set up over health concerns.
He was involved as a manager with the Irish Shinty team over the past few years, training and putting together panels for the clashes against Scotland every year.
Also on the hurling front, he took charge of Carlow club Mount Leinster Rangers, leading them to county finals and solidifying their position as the most successful club in Carlow.
The Clara man also spent time on the management team of Kilkenny camogie, being part of the set up that suffered agonising losses in the All-Ireland Finals before 2020.
