In a season filled with nail-biting moments and intense competition, Crettyard emerged as the ultimate victors, securing the Carlow & District League Nationalist Premier Division title by the slimmest of margins. The culmination of their journey came down to the final game, where the fate of the championship hung in the balance.
New Oak Boys, vying for their fifth consecutive title, entered the last match needing a win against St. Patricks Boys to maintain their grip on the league trophy. However, fate had other plans in store. Dinny Farrell etched his name into the annals of Crettyard United history, delivering a crucial equalizer for St. Patricks in the 80th minute, ultimately forcing a one-all draw. This result crowned Crettyard as the Champions, edging past their rivals by a solitary point.
While Crettyard celebrates their well-deserved triumph, the spotlight also shines on New Oak Boys, who still have plenty at stake. Despite the disappointment of falling short in the league race, New Oak remains undefeated as the season draws to a close. Their eyes are now firmly set on the LFA Junior Cup, where they are poised to face off against Wexford Bohs in the semi-final. With their unbeaten record intact, New Oak carries the momentum and determination necessary to pursue cup glory, determined to add another accolade to their storied history
The heroics of Dinny Farrell aside, another cause for celebration has emerged – the recognition of former Crettyard player Peter Grogan. Grogan, now making waves in the SSE Airtricity Men’s First Division with Bray Wanderers, was honored as part of the Team of the Week alongside his teammate Killian Cantwell from Kilkenny.
