Danesfort 1-15
Rower Inistioge 0-12
Danesfort have advanced to the Michael Lyng Motors Hyundai Kilkenny Intermediate Hurling Championship final following a semi-final defeat of Rower Inistioge on Sunday afternoon.
In conditions far from what would be considered conducive to a spectacle for both sets of supporters, a second half goal from Jake Cullen was critical in helping Danesfort get over the line in a low-scoring affair.
The first half saw Richie Hogan and Paddy Hogan lead the charge for the league runners-up and despite the best efforts of the impressive Tom Doyle and free-taker Richie Leahy, Danesfort had a three-point lead at the interval, 0-08 to 0-05.
It continued to be a sloppy encounter in the second half through no fault of the players’ endeavour but Danesfort were able to maintain their control through a number of well-taken points before Cullen came up with the decisive moment to find the back of the net with a superb finish.
Both sides exchanged scores as the game reached its conclusion and despite their best efforts, Rower Inistioge will have to accept that they will not be returning to the top tier of Kilkenny hurling.
For Danesfort, they will face either Thomastown or Carrickshock in the decider in two weeks time.
