It Carlow manager DJ Carey says despite the fixture chaos, he has a good panel to pick from for Sunday.
The side head for Belfield to take on UCD in their first match of the competition.
Meanwhile Kilkenny senior hurlers have their first outing of the new season in Callan on Sunday as they take on Wexford in the semi final of the Walsh Cup.
Both sides are seriously depleted with the Fitzgibbon Cup also starting this weekend which means DJ Carey won’t be joining Brian Cody on the sidelines in Callan as he manages IT Carlow senior hurlers.
Speaking about his panel, DJ said “We have five or six Kilkenny lads, a couple of Carlow lads, Wexford, so we have a good spread again this year, so we are hoping to do well”.
“Sunday is a really big game to be honest, because this would be probably, if either team were to lose they’re on the back foot already after Sunday, the Fitzgibbon is tightly packed this year but not as tightly packed as the Sigerson Cup”
