It’s as you were for Kilkenny’s younger hurlers and the county’s footballers.

“Following a meeting of the County Board tonight, DJ Carey has been re-appointed as U-20 Hurling Manager, Richie Mulrooney as Minor Manager and Christy Walsh as the County Football Manager”, say Kilkenny GAA.

DJ Carey’s stint as U-21 manager may not have gone as hoped for 2018. His side were pipped 3-13 to 1-17 in Tullamore in June in their Leinster U21 hurling semi-final.

For 2019, the U-21 grade drops to U-20 and it’s Carey back at the helm.

Kilkenny’s minor hurlers saw more success and booked their place in the All-Ireland minor hurling final against Galway in August, but were beaten late by a much stronger Galway side.

Following the success and development of the squad over the course of the season, Dicksboro’s Richie Mulrooney steps back into the role.

Finally, with Kilkenny’s footballers retaining the British Junior Championship crown and continued work on the ground to develop football within the county, Kerry native Christy Walsh continues as football manager.

Given speculation in the media in recent weeks that Brian Cody will continue with the Cats at senior level for a 21st season, one thing is for certain – it wasn’t confirmed on Monday night.

Cody’s role, one way or the other, should be known in the coming weeks. His ratification for 2018 had been announced this week last year, while 2016’s announcement wasn’t made until the conclusion of the county championships, post October bank holiday weekend.
