Contrary to the thoughts of Kevin Fennelly, former Cork Senior Hurling manager Donal O’Grady says Kilkenny have no chance of reaching the latter stages of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship unless they get their defence sorted.
Speaking exclusively to KCLR, Donal says an easier draw in the Qualifiers will be Kilkenny’s only hope of progressing.
“There is only one way for Kilkenny to go after that performance and that is up, because it was probably the worst performance I saw from a Kilkenny team”, said O’Grady.
“If they get a good draw and if they come through the first game in the qualifiers, they are into a Quarter-Final and anything can happen, but you would have to say at this stage, that getting into Croke Park you wouldn’t fancy them unless they really structure their back-line back as it was last year.”
“Michael Fennelly probably won’t come back but you could see the loss that he is to this Kilkenny Team. He was a huge player for them and when he is gone, there is a huge hole in that defence and midfield.”
