Freebooters Youths manager Derek Kenny said that an early goal helped settled the nerves in Sunday’s FAI Youths Cup last 16 victory over Aislinn(Annacotty).
Speaking to KCLR, Derek says the result was made greater by the fact they were not at full strength.
“We knew it would be a tough encounter coming into it as this side was beaten in the final of this competition last year.
“They had 7 of that team playing today so we are under no illusions that it was going to be difficult and we were down a couple of guys through injury and hurling commitments.
“Thankfully look we got an early goal, and it settled us into our game there so I suppose the weather conditions made it very tricky, but once we got the 2nd goal there in the 2nd half there that seemed to be the final cushion there to give us that confidence to see out the game,” he said.
