In the Michael Lyng Motors Senior Football Championship over the weekend there were wins for Old Leighlin, Rathvilly, Palatine, and in a well contested game Eire Og got their campaign and the defence of their title under way with a 3-15 to 1-9 over Ballinabranna at Netwatch Cullen Park yesterday evening.
In the Talbot Hotel Intermediate Football Championship, Kilbride, Kildavin-Clonegal, Eire Og and O’Hanrahans all recorded first round wins.
In the junior ‘A’ football championship, last years defeated finalists Fenagh started their campaign with a big win over St. Patricks finishing on a score line Fenagh 6-15, St. Patricks 0-14.
Eire Og who were up by seven points early in the second half were hauled back by a youthful Leighlinbridge side to be held to a draw, Leighlinbridge 1-11, Eire Og 1-11.
Ballon, leading Tinryland by 2-6 to 0-7 at half time had to dig deep as Tinryland drew level with ten
minutes remaining however it was Ballon that scored the last four points Ballon 2-14, Tinryland 1-13.
