Eire Og Senior Footballer Simon Rea says a lot of the squad made sacrifices throughout the year.

Simon returned to the Eire Og set-up earlier this year having been out of the game for a lengthy period with injuries and speaking to KCLR after Sunday’s County Senior Final replay victory against Rathvilly, Simon says they were out of the limelight for too long….

“I have enjoyed the football the last couple of years. A couple of years ago, injuries were kind of getting on top of me and it gets in on top of your head and you start to question whether you are enjoying it because you are injured so much but worked hard there, Joe (Murphy) came in and we had a discussion there when he came in last year and obviously last year ended in disappointment, but we left no stone unturned this year”

“To get back to where we feel the club should and that’s competing for County Finals and five years is an awful long time for EIRE OG not even be competing in a final so there was a couple of hard questions asked at the start of the year and a lot of lads made sacrifices there throughout the year and they have given up an awful lot, but look we are just thankful to get across the line against a super team like Rathvilly”
