Carlow native Finn Lynch, one of the country’s brightest sailing prospects, has signed off from Rio and the 2016 Olympic Games via his official Facebook page after finishing 32nd overall in the Mens’ Laser event over the weekend.

“So my Olympic journey has come to end.. I had a great first half of the regatta staying in the top 25 but in the end the big waves in Rio got the better of me. I finished 32nd.

I’ve had a blast the last few weeks here in Rio and it’s awesome to see all the support back home for me and the rest of team IRL.

It’s a great time for Irish sailing now with Annalise’s race for redemption today and lots of great youth results this summer.

Seeing my training partner Tonci Stipanovič have a silver medal before the medal race and a huge chance to win gold today along with Annalise kicking ass this week has given me lots of motivation for the next four years. I’m the youngest this time around and in Tokyo I want to be the best.

Thank you to everyone who helped me make my dream come true of competing in the Olympics. My coaches, training partners, my amazing family and of course all my friends who support me always – I couldn’t have been here without you.
GOODLUCK to Annalise today. ‪#‎pulllikeadog‬ ‪#‎redemption‬ ‪#‎teamirl‬”

From all of us here at KCLR, a huge congratulations to Finn on his Rio journey. We can’t wait to see him on the water in Tokyo for 2020!
