Former Antrim Senior Hurler and Manager Terence “Sambo” McNaughton says that Croke Park has to play a part in helping the likes of Carlow, Antrim and second tier counties to be able to compete at the highest level.
Speaking exclusively to KCLR, “Sambo” says the second tier counties don’t get the same rewards like the top teams.
He said “We have to promote our hurling teams better, but then Croke Park has to play a part here too”.
“We need to guarantee that they are getting it, at the end of the day like you are asking a Carlow Team to train as hard as Kilkenny, but they are not going to get the Winter Holidays, they are not going to get the sponsored cars and all these sort of things and modern society, you nearly need to guarantee players to commit and to have the lifestyle, that they are going to get something at the end of it, and not going to clear off to America and things like that”.
