Cars were shined, tickets were bought and Gowran Park was ready to welcome some serious horsepower.
That was until it wasn’t. This year Gowran Festival of Speed has now been cancelled.
The track was to welcome avid car enthusiasts this Sunday, with tickets expected to sell out, like last year.
In a post on social media channels, last-minute complications with an insurance company were cited as a reason. Refunds will be processed and may take up to ten days.
It’s with great sadness we have to announce that the Gowran Festival of Speed is canceled due to last-minute complications with our Insurance company and we have no option but to pull the event for this year. Please take our word for it that we have tried absolutely everything and have gone to the ends of the earth to find a solution.
For anyone that has already pre-purchased tickets for this event, the money will be returned to the card you used at the time of purchasing within the next 10 Days.
We can not but apologize but I hope you understand that this is completely out of our control.
Over the past 7 years we have built up a fantastic event and it’s disappointing that Insurance Companies won’t play ball with us this year.
KCLR caught up with Gowran Park manager Eddie Scally who spoke of his complete disappointment at the news;
“We could not get cover for the track cars. We felt if we were to run the event without rally cars on the track or without the drifters, it just would not be a festival of speed. It is in the interest of everyone we pulled it. We could have run a static event, but it is just not the same.”
“It is gutting but unfortunately, we have to do what the insurance companies tell us. If we had no cover it would have been too big of a risk.”
We will have a full interview with Eddie this Saturday on Scoreline from 3pm.
