Kilkenny Senior Camogie Champions 2021, Dicksboro (Kilkenny Camogie)

Oulart The Ballagh win back to back Leinster titles on a scoreline of 1-13 to 3-5

Lucinda Gahan was the first to register a point for Dicksbora but unfortunately that didn’t seem to settle the nerves.

Oulart The Ballagh didn’t take long to get up and running and were quick to justify their favorites tag.

The 2020 All Ireland Champions were in charge throughout the 1st half with Gahan’s point being the only cause for the the umpire to raise a flag for the Kilkenny side.

Approximately 600 spectators gathered at The National Games Development Centre in Abbotstown for the AIB Senior Camogie Leinster Final.

Oulart The Ballagh’s seasoned veterans including Ursula Jacob, Shelley Kehoe, Stacey Kehoe and Mary Lacey showed no sign of fatigue after their All Ireland win a couple of weeks ago.

There was always 2 or 3 Oulart The Ballagh girls to every Dicksbora player, making it almost impossible for Donal Carroll’s side to break through the lines.

Dicksbora had to adapt their play to a hand passing game to counteract Oulart The Ballagh’s notorious physicality.

Dickbora were in trouble in the first half but Oulart would have been out of sight if it wasn’t for the heroic efforts of netminder Kirsty Maher.

She made 2 fantastic saves that essentially kept them in the game as they neared half time.

The Comeback

Dicksbora came out a different team in the second half and showed incredible grit and determination.

They outscored the slaneysiders 3-4 to 6 points which is no mean feat.

Unfortunately, their efforts weren’t enough to overcome the All Ireland champions who had simply out hurled them in the first half.

In true Kilkenny style, Dickbora mounted their comeback just as proceedings recommenced after the final water break.

Too Little, Too Late

Some of the refereeing decisions proved critical to the outcome of the game, especially some of the rulings made in the final quarter.

Oulart were awarded a free despite no obvious offence having been committed by Dicksboro.

Ursella Jacob pointed it with ease, bringing the margin back to 3 points.

At that point Dicksboro knew that nothing else only a goal would secure them a win.

Amy Clifford struck the ball hard and low but Lauren Sinnott came through for the girls from Wexford with an epic save.

The game ended with just 2 points to spare for Oulart The Ballagh.

Dicksboro will be devastated travelling home from Dublin today but can hold their heads high knowing that only 1 score separated the teams in the end.
