There was heartbreak for IT Carlow who suffered a single point defeat in last nights Fitzgibbon Cup final.
DJ Carey’s men led by four points and half time and UCC were reduced to 14 men in the second half but the Cork based students turned it around to win by 18 points to 2-11 in the finish.
UCC Manager Tom Kingston says IT Carlow fought hard but they were glad they could pull it back.
He said “It was an incredible fight back, an incredible come back, at one stage in the second half Carlow IT has all the momentum, we were struggling at times”.
“You have to give credit to the opposition, they played really really well, they showed incredible hunger for it, they showed incredible passion for it, it just goes to show what the Fitzgibbon Cup means to both teams and what it means to every student in college that plays hurling, the fitzgibbon means everything”.
