Former Ireland back-row Sean O’Brien thinks rugby will be among the last sports to restart in the U-K.
“The Tullow Tank” feels the levels of contact in the game makes a safe return to training and matches difficult.
O’Brien , 33, had just made his comeback from injury for London Irish before the pandemic shut down the Premiership season in England. Having gone back to Tullow to help on the Farm during calving season, the flanker seems delighted with his fitness.
Speaking with Mcsport “My Motivation” O’Brien said “I did some running tests two weeks ago and haven’t had scores like it since 2017. So it’s given me a chance to get a lot of work through my body and into a really good place if things do kick off quickly.”
He continued “Obviously, we all want to go back playing rugby in a safe and manageable way for us all. It’s a difficult one, I think it will be the last one to go back for sure, maybe not training but definitely playing games.”
Meanwhile Munster have paused their season ticket scheme for the 2020 / 2021 campaign as rugby counts the cost of the pandemic.
The former CEO of the English Rugby Football Union, Francis Baron, has proposed a one off tournament involving all World nations in Britain and Ireland in June and July of next year that would help raise funds for global unions.
