Hon The Village : Kilkenny legend Fan Larkin reveals his biggest disappointment in new podcast

Five time All Ireland winner with Kilkenny and two time Club All Ireland winner Fan Larkin was the first guest on James Stephens new podcast. Over the hour guest host Tadhg Donoghue sat down for an honest refreshing chat with the legend for close to an hour with some fascinating stories throughout.

Listening back to the interview it is clear that Fan was always going to be destined for success. Despite winning so much throughout his playing tenure, he still feels he could of adding more medals to his name.

“We probably should of won more, Johnstown beat us in two finals, whatever about the first one, there is no way they should of beating us in the second one. We were leading by 13 points at half time!”

One particular loss on the 6th of February 1977 in Dr. Cullen Park, Carlow stood out to Larkin. After defeating Lough Lene Gaels and Ardclough on route to the final, the defending All Ireland champions came up against Laois’s side, Camross.

“The biggest disappointment was after winning the Club All Ireland in ’76, we were beat in the Leinster final in ’77. I couldn’t play, I was in hospital. We were bet by a point , we probably would have bet the Glen (Rovers) in the final, because we had a star-studded team, it was just one of those days that things did not go right for The Village”

“Camross were a good hard tough team too, you would know you were hurling!”
