One of the most prestigious competitions for unraced dogs takes place at Kilkenny track on Friday night.
St James Park hosts the first round of the Champion Open unraced 525 with 48 names entered and a prize money of €10,000.
Manager Tom Kinnane told scoreline that the great thing about this competition is that you can find some real superstars at these events.
“48 names will go into the hat and until they start running, we won’t know how good they are,” said Tom.
“For example, a dog that ran in the greyhound derby last year, 2020, was Ballymack Cooper and he won this event two years ago, and it’s an event that has produced numerous classic and derby winners over the years” he added.
