Hurling stars of the future set to showcase talents at Lisdowney 7’s

Lisdowney Sevens

320……..that is the number of U13 hurlers that will attend the 35th Annual Lisdowney 7’s hurling tournament this year.

Sixty of these players will be from outside the county – representing Laois, Clare, Tipperary, Kildare and Carlow.

This hugely popular and esteemed tournament started 35 years ago with 8 teams participating. This tournament, run over three weekends, now hosts 32 teams, with a stand-by list of 6 teams waiting in the wings for a cancellation and the opportunity to participate.

On Saturday 23rd July the challenge will begin as the first 16 team’s battle it out for a place in the finals. Followed on Saturday 30th July by the second day of qualifier matches.

Croke Park on the first Sunday in September……that is what it will feel like for the 8 teams that return for the Finals of the Lisdowney 7’s tournament on Saturday 6th August. Exciting, challenging, exhausting, rewarding, disappointing, memorable, enjoyable are just some of the emotions that will be felt on the day by these U13 players, their coaches and supporters.

We look forward to three days jam packed with top class hurling skill, talent, speed, accuracy, comradery, chat and respect for each other.

These young hurlers follow in the footsteps of many of the great Kilkenny hurlers such as DJ Carey, Henry Shefflin, Cha Fitzpatrick, Michael Fennelly, Colin Fennelly, TJ Reid, Jackie Tyrell, Tommy Walsh, Richie Hogan, Cillian Buckley, Padraig Walsh, Paul Murphy, Lester Ryan, Conor Fogarty, Shane Prendergast among others who have all taken part in the tournament over the years.

Venue: Lisdowney GAA Pitch
Dates: Saturday 23rd and Saturday 30th July with finals on Saturday 6th August.
Time: Matches will start each day at 10am sharp and run through to approximately 3pm.
