Carlow will learn this Tuesday who they will face in the new-look Tailteann Cup this summer.
Last year’s competition was a straight knock-out which included a big win for Carlow over Tipperary in FBD Semple Stadium but this year sees a shift to a round-robin format to facilitate more games.
The draw for both the Sam Maguire and Tailteann Cup will be made at lunchtime on Tuesday.
In the Tailteann Cup, the 16 participating Counties will be drawn into four separate groups. Teams will be seeded based on their finishing positions in the Allianz Leagues and each group will feature four teams (each group consisting of a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th seed). Carlow finished sixth of eight teams in Division 4 year, ahead of Waterford and London. New York will enter the Tailteann Cup at the Preliminary Quarter-final stage.
Teams who have already played each other earlier in this year’s championships can be drawn to the same groups.
First round games will take place on the weekend of 13/14 May with the first seed playing third, while second will play fourth. The second round will take place on 20/21 May and the third round on the weekend of 3/4 June with games on those dates set to be played at neutral venues.
A finalised list of seeds will be confirmed this Sunday evening on the conclusion of both the Leinster and Ulster football semi-finals.
