Former Ireland International Ladies Hockey Goalkeeper, Kilkenny woman Clodagh Cassin says the way Ireland dealt with the pressure of their Olympic Qualifier Penalty Shoot-Out victory over Canada augurs very well ahead of next Summer’s Olympics in Tokyo.
Speaking to KCLR, Clodagh says that Ireland proved they had the mental strength required when it mattered most.
She said “1 v 1s, it’s the toughest way to try and sort out a winner in a game because obviously you are calling on five players and a goalkeeper and they all have to step-up and especially when it gets to that sudden death, so it’s an awful lot of pressure on players, but the girls dealt with it brilliantly and they really did us proud so it’s all very exciting now lead-up to the 2020 next year”.
