It was the news that we were all dreading but also would have expected. Tullow man Sean O Brien received a one week ban for his punch to the stomach of French second row Pascal Pape.
He was handed down a two week ban but it was reduced to one due to a number of factors from Seans point of view including his previous record and his admission of the action.
Sean will now be unavailable for Ireland’s World Cup Quarter Final against Argentina on Sunday.
It’s reported this morning that the IRFU are considering an appeal of the ban.
Meanwhile the Puma’s will be without centre Marcelo Bosch who was found guilty of a dangerous tackle against Namibia last Sunday.
An update is expected from the Irish camp today on the fitness of Johnny Sexton, who looks set to be given the all-clear from a groin injury.
The camp could do with a boost following the losses of Paul O’Connell , Peter O’Mahony and Jared Payne through injury.
