IT Carlow take Division Two League Camogie title after tight finish

IT Carlow Camogie 2020

Reporting from CCAO – 3rd Level Camogie

IT Carlow (1-12)
Cork IT (1-11)

IT Carlow won the Higher Education Division Two League Final beating Cork IT by a single point in the last puck of the game.

A long range free from Roisin Kelly sealed it at the death.

After a cagey first half this League Final burst into life, four points to three at the break to the eventual winners, with all IT Carlow’s scores coming from Róisín Kelly frees.

Both teams shared a point each within two minutes of the restart, igniting a lively 30 minutes.

Roisín Kelly put over another free before the ball broke kindly for Eimear O’Donovan in the box and she struck the goal that put IT Carlow firmly in control.

Four more points were shared equally in a frantic few minutes before Rachel Hurley, Katie Walsh and Saoirse McCarthy Walsh struck three in succession for Cork IT.

Carlow responded but it was Corks turn to hit the net as Casey Coleman’s shot was deflected into the Carlow net and leveled the game.

A free from Saoirse McCarthy Walsh put Cork ahead for the first time with four minutes to go and the Lee siders had all the momentum.

However two frees, from Eimear O’Donovan and a long range effort from Roisín Kelly sealed it for Carlow at the death.

The player of the match went to IT Carlow’s full forward Aoife Guiney!
