Thomastown hurling captain, Stephen Donnelly, is poised for a momentous occasion as his team prepares to face Castlelyons of Cork in the AIB GAA Club Hurling All-Ireland Intermediate Championship Final this Saturday at 7 pm in Croke Park.
Donnelly emphasized the significance of this opportunity, stating that winning the championship would mean everything to the players and the entire community. Reflecting on the collective dream of securing an All-Ireland title with the club, Donnelly highlighted the profound impact such an achievement would have, especially for the older generation in the community.
“It would mean the world, even for the community. When you’re talking to the older generation, and you see how much it means to them, you wouldn’t even realize, but it’s for the likes of them as well,” remarked Donnelly.
While Thomastown has a storied history in hurling, having clinched the Junior Championship in 2013, the club has yet to secure an intermediate All-Ireland title. Notably, on February 10, 2013, Thomastown emerged victorious in the Junior Championship, defeating Fullen Gaels 2–17 to 2–14 in the final at Croke Park. Michael Donnelly, a key player for Thomastown, led the championship’s scoring charts with an impressive tally of 0-40.
As Thomastown prepares to make history in the Intermediate Championship Final, the game will be broadcast live on KCLR, with sincere thanks to Treacys Value Homeware Thomastown.
The entire community eagerly awaits the outcome of this crucial match, anticipating a moment of triumph that would resonate for generations to come.
