Mount Leinster Rangers and Tinryland clash tonight in the Michael Lyng Motors Hyundai Carlow Senior Football Championship, with both teams desperately searching for their first victory.
The stakes couldn’t be higher, as the loser will face relegation play-offs, while the winner secures a coveted spot in the quarter-finals.
Mount Leinster Rangers had a promising start to the championship, putting in a strong performance against Bagnelstown Gaels. However, they suffered a heavy defeat in their second outing, falling to Old Leighlin. Tinryland, on the other hand, has also endured a difficult campaign, losing both of their games to Old Leighlin and Bagnelstown Gaels. Despite holding a five-point lead against Bagnelstown at one stage, they couldn’t hold on to secure a win.
Speaking after last week’s defeat to Old Leighlin, Mount Leinster Rangers manager Chris Conway emphasized the importance of moving on and preparing for the crucial clash against Tinryland. “It’s do or die against Tinryland,” Conway said, expressing confidence that his players would bounce back. “The boys dusted themselves off and got ready to roll. They probably had the defeat processed fairly quickly, such was the nature of the score. To their credit, they kept fighting until the end. That’s all you can ask.”
Conway also highlighted the resilience of his team, noting that several players had been dealing with injuries but were now hopeful of being fit for tonight’s game. “The few bodies that were carrying injuries have hopefully come through it, and now it’s a fresh opportunity to get ready to go again,” he added.
For Tinryland, tonight’s game represents a final chance to salvage their championship hopes, while Mount Leinster Rangers will be eager to prove that last week’s defeat was merely a bump in the road.
