After five weeks, the Con & Annie Kirby Memorial finally came to a close on Saturday with a final worthy of the €160,000 prize money on offer.
The Limerick Greyhound Stadium PRO was delighted with the result as the winner came from Limerick on an amazing night for young trainer Mark O’Donovan.
“Our winner was the locally owned ‘Stonepark Leo’ trained by college student Mark O’Donovan and the owner will now take home the €80,000 in prize money,” said Sheahan.
The Talking Dogs TV commentator has tipped ‘Sing-Along Sally throughout the course of the competition. Sheahan believes that her positioning in trap 4 hampered her chances on Saturday.
He said: “‘Sing-Along Sally’ was out in trap 4 and that didn’t suit her because there was a little bit of bumping, so it wasn’t her night.”
Sheahan was disappointed that there wasn’t a crowd in the stadium last night to roar home a local winner.
“In normal times the roof would have been blown off the stadium especially with a local winner and it would have been an amazing night in normal times, but it wasn’t to be.”
