The irrepressible form of Piltown trainer Joseph O’Brien continued apace at Ballinrobe on Monday night, as he teamed up with his younger brother Donnacha to land the Win Big With The Tote Maiden.
Their charge Thomas O’Malley was off the bridle and didn’t seem to making a lot of impression before the straight, but the further they went the more strongly he galloped and stayed and in the end he was well in command in defeating My Amazing One by a length-and-three-quarters.
No sooner had they landed the maiden than they were in the winners enclosure again when Donnacha brought the Motivator filly Detailed from last to first to land the Tote Handicap.
It proved a perfectly timed challenge as she got up in the last stride to deny Mr Adjudicator by half-a-length a shade cosily. The winner puts Donnacha O’Brien onto the 30-winner mark for the season, and like earlier winner Thomas O’Malley she raced in the colours of the Annus Mirabilis Syndicate.
