With the 2016 KCLR McCalmont Cup Final taking place this Saturday in the city, we caught up with Thomastown United captain Andy Kavanagh to see how his side are set for this weekend’s showdown.
Thomastown suffered defeat at the hands of Evergreen only last weekend in the Leinster Junior Cup Semi-Final on the all-weather pitch, and while a neutral venue may balance out the odds (Evergreen play on an all-weather pitch at home), Kavanagh is still expecting a tough challenge.
“Any time you play Evergreen you expect a tough game. They’re a top side in fairness, they have huge strength in depth so we’re just expecting a tough game. We’re hoping that we can overcome [the defeat] and push on, get a different result this Saturday.
“The good thing about us, over the last few years especially, is that we never give up. We always fight to the end.”
