The Kilkenny District League last night gave word to clubs that the 19/20 season for junior, schoolboys and schoolgirls is now null and void.
In an email circulated to club sectaries on Wednesday night, the league outlined hope that the new season could begin in September with August 10th currently time touted for returning to training.
Unlike the Carlow Football league no teams had previously won a league. Freebooters , Evergreen and Thomastown were battling it out at the top in the premier division, while in division one Newpark only had four games played in due to their run in the Leinster Junior Cup.
The statement issued read
“Due to the ongoing coronavirus these are very difficult and challenging times for all of us in the league, the well being of our players, coaches and volunteers take precedence. We will follow the advice of the FAI and the SFAI on when we can return to play football, but at the moment training cannot commence until August 10. With this in mind the League has decided that the 2019/2020 domestic season for junior, schoolboys and schoolgirls is now null and void.”
