Kenny vs Spenny….The TV show that epitomizes competition

“Since the beginning of time, mankind has been forced to compete for survival. This spirit of competition has reached a pinnacle in the relationship of two best friends who battle against each other. Why? Glory for the winner…humiliation for the loser… This is Kenny…vs…Spenny”

Kenny vs Spenny….The TV show that epitomizes competition

Six seasons over 80 competitions, the Canadian TV Show Kenny vs Spenny captured the hearts and minds of TV audiences over the world.

The premise is simple two friends, Kenny Hotz and Spencer Rice, compete in a series of competitions that range from outlandish to truly bizarre, with the winner providing a humiliation for the loser to carry out. All though it sounds quite straightforward, this show is anything but. Kenny becomes the antithesis to everything that embodies a contest. Constantly looking for shortcuts and ingenious ways to cheat that his counterpart seems oblivious to. Spenny , by contrast, operates on generally good faith which is much to his detriment.

The first episode I ever came across was in the later stages of a night back in 2010 and the challenge was who could wear a gorilla suit the longest. Seems easy until Kenny starts with his mind games and that is when the real fun begins, with the mind games. I have never seen the male friendship captured that authentically before, a fact which also resonated with South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone who signed on as executive producers. It was truly a revelation as to what a TV Show could be.

The duo are currently embarking on a North American tour, with this guy hoping they may make a stop over in Ireland & Europe in the coming years. Until then you can watch every episode for free on youtube. Why not start where I started, below is the first episode I ever witnessed, enjoy.
