One of the biggest events in the greyhound racing calendar is just around the corner with the English Derby kicking off on Thursday.

Hennessy feels that a continuation of the warm weather throughout the weekend will allow certain types of dogs to prosper where others may falter.

He said: “Warm weather would speed up the track and it would suit the early pace setters. That could be very important throughout the week.

“Welfare wise, you’ll see a lot more water for the dogs and they’ll be kept in the shade a lot more. That’s the main issue in weather that’s very good.”

Hennessy gave his tip for the event that is set to take place from June 3-11.

“The one that people are latching onto is ‘Beech Avenue’. He’s an unbelievably fast dog and he has so much strength.

“He’s 25/1 and I think he’s a really good shout for anyone who wants to put some money on the races.”

Hennessy also gave a breakdown of where you can catch all of the action.

“There are 41 Irish dogs in the first round. You can catch it on Sporty Stuff TV or on the Racing Post app.

“It promises to be an enthralling week of racing and it will be really interesting to see what happens throughout the course of the competition.”
