Former Kilkenny defender Kieran Joyce says the depth of a county panel will become even more important with the new Championship structures in which there are 4 games in the new look Round Robin Leinster Championship.
Speaking to KCLR, Kieran says that the new structures will make it more important to have a 2nd player for each position.
“You see so many of teams in the League are trying out so many players because you are going to have to get a panel of maybe 25 26 players that are going to be your Championship panel.
“If a chap gets a knock or an injury or a dead leg even in the first week, it would be very hard for him to recover in time for the game the following week.
“So a lot of teams even from a Kilkenny point of view are going to nearly need a second player to fill in for each position.
“It will give great opportunity for other players, and it will be great for a spectators point of view but I suppose for the average
player that has to go to work the next day, it will be tough,” he said.
