This Sunday the Talbot Hotel Carlow will be holding Mensana for Men, a mental health awareness night catered towards mens health and well-being.
The night will include many Kilkenny and Carlow sporting greats such as Brian Cody and Sean O’Brien and is set to be MC’d by former Carlow manager Turlough O’Brien.
Speaking about the event with Eimear Ní Bhraonáin on KCLR live Carlow GAA Chairman Jim Bolger has highlighted the adverse effects social media has on players
“People are called keyboard warriors, I call them keyboard cowards, and I have that on the record. We have to keep fighting against these faceless people, it is not very courageous
“It can be detrimental to a person, that is why we try and help out our players and indeed our referees who get a hard time on social media.”
“It is a challenge but I cannot imagine these people have ever played the sport themselves. If they did they would have more empathy for the players. They are amateur players giving their best, it is their hobbies and pastime, and they do their best.”
