Kilkenny duo Eoin Everard and Cathal O’Reilly have been called up to represent Ireland this weekend.
The Celtic International cross country takes place within the World Athletics Northern Ireland Cross Country this coming Saturday in Billy Neil MBE Country Park in Dundonald, Belfast.
Everard will be part of a four-man men’s senior team alongside Paul O’Donnell (DSD AC), Emmet Jennings (DSD AC) and Ryan Creech (Leevale AC).
Meanwhile, O’Reilly – a silver medalist with Team Ireland at the European cross country championships in Abbottstown last month – will line out for the Under 20 men’s international team alongside Dean Casey (Ennis Track AC), Scott Fagan (Metro/St. Brigid’s AC) and Harry Colbert (Waterford AC).
“After such strong performances from all of the Irish teams in Decembers European Athletics Cross Country Championships, the focus switches quickly towards Turin and aiming match the successes of 2019 and 2021″, says Matt Lockett, National Endurance Coordinator.
“The fantastic support in Abbotstown shows the appetite and passion for Cross Country running in Ireland. Many of the athletes that go on to represent Ireland in major championships have used the Celtic Cross Country championships to build experience of running against strong opposition.
“We are delighted that Athletics Northern Ireland is hosting this event and athletes will be able to test themselves against athletes travelling from England, Scotland, Wales and further afield.”
