Today marks the commencement of the Olympic Games in Paris, and the Ireland men’s sevens rugby team is poised for action. Their Olympic journey begins with a match against South Africa at 4:30 PM, followed by a face-off with Japan at 8:00 PM.
One player to watch is Niall Comerford, who carries a strong connection to Callan through his father, Philip. Speaking recently to KCLR Daily, Comerford shared the team’s ambitions and mindset as they head into the competition.
“Over the series, we got three bronzes and a silver, so we’re still looking for that elusive gold medal,” Comerford stated. “Every tournament’s different, so we’re definitely gearing up for it, and we will be going in with some expectations just to do the best we can and hopefully bring something home to the country!”
The Irish team’s made their Olympic debut in Tokyo three years ago, where they finished in 10th place.
