Kilkenny 1-22
Kildare 0-11
The Kilkenny intermediate camogie team have begun their Glen Dimplex Intermediate All-Ireland campaign with a resounding win at home to Kildare on Saturday afternoon.
An Emer Reilly free opened the scoring after a lackluster opening period from both sides.
Kildare kicked on from that point with full forward Leah Sutton doubling their early lead.
Kilkenny responded with two points from play from Shauna Treacy and and a score Therese Donnelly while an Emma Manogue free gave the hosts a slender advantage for the first time at a warm UPMC Nowlan Park.
Manogue got her first score from play from the immediate puckout to leave the scoreboard reading Kilkenny 0-05 to 0-02 Kildare midway through the first half.
Clara’s Aisling Curtis continued the Kilkenny charge with two points of her own but Emer Reilly and Sophie Browne kept the Lilywhites within touching distance of their opponents at the interval, Kilkenny 0-09 to 0-06 Kildare.
Manogue and Reilly proceeded to get into a free-taking contest at the beginning of the second half as Kilkenny finally began to pull away from a valiant away side.
A Ciara O’Keeffe goal with fifteen minutes remaining all but ended Kildare’s effort and a string of points towards the end of the game sealed a comfortable victory for John Scott’s side in a largely one sided affair.
