Kilkenny 2-07
Derry 1-08
Two goals from Laura Hegarty and Ciara O’Keeffe were enough for the Kilkenny intermediate side to gain a crucial win in the third round of the Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Intermediate Camogie Championship on Saturday afternoon.
It was a second victory of the campaign with home wins against Kildare and Derry coming either side of a defeat to Cork.
However, it was a tight affair in blustery conditions in Freshford as a valiant Derry effort was not enough.
Those two goals from Hegarty and O’Keeffe came during a ten minute spell in the first half for the hosts as they moved into an early 2-02 to 0-03 lead.
They built upon those goals as the half wore on with a string of unanswered points giving them a deserved 2-06 to 0-03 advantage at the interval.
An Aine McAllister goal with five minutes of normal time brought Derry back into the clash following a dominant second half from the away side in which they scored 1-04 without reply.
That was not enough for them to secure a critical win, however, as both sides exchanged fine points late on before Kilkenny managed to see the game out.
