Move over Lewis Hamilton, there’s a new rising name on the junior karting circuit and it hails from Muckalee, Co. Kilkenny.
Aaron Coogan (17) had a ‘dreams come true’ moment this past weekend in Valencia, Spain by taking the tricolour to the podium at the Tillotson T4 Junior Nations Cup.
The event is billed as “one of the most exciting 4 Stroke Karting events of the year”. The three-day event saw competitors racing identical Tillotson T4 packages in Mini, Junior, Senior and Senior 165 categories. It replaced the T4 World Cup race as the most prestigious title to win on the T4 racing calendar, bringing the best 4-stroke pilots worldwide to one track.
Training across the year at the Kiltorcan raceway circuit on the outskirts of Ballyhale, the Muckalee native punched his ticket to the Nations Cup by claiming this year’s Motorsport Ireland Tillotson T4 Junior Championship.
With over 40 drivers in his category alone worldwide, Coogan becomes the first Irish driver to win the T4 junior trophy at the Nations Cup.
