Kilkenny Womens XI suffer defeat as they try and gain back-to-back promotions

The team was 8 points clear of their rivals MU Barnhall but after the weekend’s games that gap has been cut to just three points with just a couple of games remaining

Paddy Mosse’s side suffered only their 3rd defeat of the season as they lost 17-15 to South East Lions yesterday. The Kilkenny team has now suffered back-to-back defeats as they try to get promotion from Division 4 of the Leinster Womens League. The marble city team had an 8-point lead going into the game at the weekend but that has now been drastically cut to just 3 points after the recent defeat.

MU Barnhall who has been clipping at their heels for the last number of weeks had a 27-19 victory over Wanderers in their game yesterday. There are just two games remaining in the competition and Kilkenny will have a huge game against Navan on 26th February in Foulkstown which is a must-win game for the Kilkenny Women if they are to get that promotion.

MU Barnhall is due to play St Marys College in their next game but St Marys gave a walkover at the weekend to make it 7 in total and if they were to give another one to MU Barnhall that would put serious pressure on the Kilkenny team to defeat Navan and it would all go down to the wire of the last day which would see Kilkenn travel to Garda to take on the home side.
