For the second consecutive year, Kilkenny’s run in the Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship ended at the quarter-final stage, this time after a narrow defeat to Dublin at Croke Park.

As a result, Kilkenny has no players nominated for the 2023 PWC All-Star Senior Camogie Team, marking a difficult period for the Cats following their previous All-Ireland success in 2022.

All-Ireland champions Cork lead the way with 12 nominations for the prestigious team, followed closely by beaten finalists Galway, who have 11 players shortlisted. Tipperary have seven nominations, Dublin four, and Waterford two.

In the race for Senior Player of the Year, Cork’s Saoirse McCarthy and Laura Hayes join Galway’s Aoife Donohue as the nominees.

Despite no senior nominations, Kilkenny’s Danielle Morrissey has been recognized in the intermediate ranks. Morrissey is nominated for Intermediate Player of the Year, where she will compete against Cork’s Lauren Homan and Emma Flanagan. Morrissey’s performance was instrumental in Kilkenny’s run to the Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Intermediate Final, where they narrowly lost to Cork by 1-11 to 1-10 in a fiercely contested battle at Croke Park on August 11th.

Though the intermediate loss was a tough blow, Morrissey’s nomination highlights the continued talent and promise within Kilkenny camogie.
