David McClure has been crowned European freestyle kayaking champion.
Ranked 5th in the world rankings, McClure fought off stiff comeptition from Spanish and French opposition to hold onto top spot and claim a gold medal for Ireland and Kilkenny Aqua Canoe Club.
The European Championships have been taking place in the Slalom course just outside Paris throughout the week and Kilkenny natives McClure and Kevin O’Connor have both been part of Team Ireland.
