Hats, shorts and suncream are the order of the day by the looks of it as Kilkenny’s hurling and football heroes will be welcomed to UPMC Nowlan Park this evening.

The civic reception, hosted by Kilkenny County Council and Kilkenny GAA gets underway from 4pm with UPMC Nowlan Park open to the public with the Kilkenny senior hurling team, All-Ireland winning U20 hurling team and All-Ireland junior football champions all set to be involved.

Proceedings get underway shortly after 4pm with a replay of yesterday’s All-Ireland senior hurling championship final with Limerick running out 1-31 to 2-26 winners in a close-fought contest.

Music follows the game with live performances on stage from Drops Of Green and The Kilkennys before the players arrive to the stage around 7.30pm.

Ahead of their arrival, they’ll be gathered in Kilkenny Castle to depart by open-top bus from the Castle gates to the Parade, turning right along Rose Inn Street, up John Street, the Hebron Road and O’Loughlin Road.

Rolling road closures will be in place along the route to facilitate travel contra to the current one-way system through Kilkenny City.

You can follow the homecoming live on air and online as we bring Full Time live from Kilkenny GAA HQ just after the news at 6pm this evening.
