It was heartache for IT Carlow on Thursday night.
Slipping four points behind in the opening minutes of the game, IT Carlow rallied across the first half and into the second against a strongly-favoured University of Limerick side in Thursday’s Fitzgibbon Cup final.
So much so that a late goal from Marty Kavanagh looked to have won the game for the home side only for UL to level at the end of normal time, forcing an additional 20 minutes.
With the sides level at the break, Carlow edged ahead by two heading into the final minute of the game, 2-23 to 0-27. But much like Ballygunner did to Ballyhale only last weekend, UL broke IT Carlow hearts with a free in the dying seconds of the game hitting the back of the net to hand the visitors a one-point win.
