Carlow Under-21 Football manager Peter McConnon says that training at this time of the year is tough when you’ve got Championship competitions so early in the year.
Carlow face their neighbours Wicklow in their Leinster championship opener tonight in IT Carlow at 7.30.
Speaking to KCLR, Peter says the Under-21 Championship should be played in the Summer months……
“Everything in the sense of preparing a person or an individual on the team physically for to play championship football is alien to having it done at this time of the year.”
“They’re doing strength and conditioning work at this time of the year, they’re doing stamina work at this time of the year, and that is not conducive to playing championship football.”
“Where as you know, the reality is, they’re aiming to play high profile matches in the summer months, and now your trying to get them to play high profile football in February, which is a difficult assignment to try and tweak.”
