While Kilkenny’s senior hurlers are in another All-Ireland final in a week’s time against Limerick, the county’s footballers are in action this weekend with the All-Ireland junior football championship set to be played out between today and Sunday.
Revamped as a four-team competition last year comprising Kilkenny, New York and two sides from the British Junior Championship – London and Warwickshire this year – the semi-finals take place on Friday with the final taking place on Sunday in Croke Park.
Up first, Kilkenny will start their All-Ireland defence against London, familiar to Carlow supporters from Division 4 of the National Football League. While London’s side was somewhat weakened last season, following their winless exit of the Tailteann Cup earlier this summer, there could be a bite in the visitors in Abbottstown.
